National Oral Health Month: 3 Steps to Good Habits
Did you know that April is National Oral Health Month? Use this month as an excuse to start developing good oral health habits. Follow these tips to make excellent oral health a part of your everyday life!
1 - Identify your obstacles
What is preventing you from flossing and brushing twice a day? It could be the time commitment, the discomfort you feel, or even the extra energy you have to muster at the end of a busy day. Finding what’s in your way is the first step to figuring a way past it.
2 - Reward the small wins
Whenever you, for example, floss three days in a row, give yourself a pat on the back! Building good routines begins with baby steps, so you can’t expect yourself to be perfect right away. Give yourself credit for the little victories, and it’ll be easier to go for the big ones.
3 - Set a deadline
It can take up to 66 days for new behaviours to become part of your lifestyle, so expect to put in concerted effort over a long period of time. Visualise yourself with cleaner, healthier teeth in the future, and work towards it a little every day. If your deadline comes and goes and a healthy oral health routine isn’t quite automatic, just push your deadline by a couple weeks—and DON’T GIVE UP!
Last year, we went over 5 Tips to Take Away From Oral Health Month. Give that article a read, because those tips hold true today.
As part of this month-long celebration of clean and healthy teeth and gums, April 4th to 10th is National Dental Hygienists Week. What better way to celebrate than booking your appointment and coming in to visit us? No healthy routine is complete without regular visits to the hygienist!
